Edition directed by Yannick Merlin – Preface by Daniel Roth
“L’orgue contemporain pour les premières années, vol.1” [“Contemporary Organ Music for the First Years of Study”], which was published in 2008, with a fine preface by Marie-Claire Alain, has enjoyed a great success. This has encouraged Éditions Delatour France and Yannick Merlin, their Director of Collections, to publish a second volume.
This can only be a cause for celebration, since it is of great importance that organists, both the young and the less young, should have the opportunity to prepare for the great repertoire of contemporary organ music through these short pieces which are, above all, technically easy.
The two collections include pieces which are very varied in structure, harmonic style and rhythm. There is a smooth progression, here, from the very easy to the moderately difficult. Some of the pieces are suitable for liturgical use and, for the younger students, there is no shortage of entertaining material.
Truly, there is something here to suit all tastes. When may we expect the third volume ?
