The transcription of Brahms’ 4th Symphony has been effected in respect of the technical reflexes of the organist, and in a classical writing in 4 or 5 parts. This means that it is not a simple reduction of the orchestral score to the organ, but an arrangement dedicated to the organ and the organists respecting the character of the original work. Thus, some existing elements have been removed and others added or rewritten. We have to avoid essentially to imitate the orchestra, either by phrasing, tempos, and the registration, and to play this transcription as a work for organ, just like it would have been written for the organ first.
